A late 17th to early antique leather costrel of typical barrel-form with pronounced sloping shoulders which have been pierced to accommodate a leather strap. The edges stitched seams, with scratched initials 'RV' to one ends, retaining traces of a blue polychrome paint history. Unusual in its scale, surface history and form.
