A solid brass antique Hippocampus / sea horse is actually used as an oar lock to hold the braided silk steering ropes on a Venetian gondola.
Thought to be designed and produced by Cavalli in Italy, its sculptural qualities and scale work well as either a table top or book shelf sculpture or door stop mounted inside a large block of wood. The base had not been secured in case the buyer would like it mounted in a marble or granite base in the future.
