An Italian Grand Tour bronze oil lamp cast in the manner of Andrea Briosco, called Riccio, (Italian, Trent 1470-1532 Padua), first quarter of the 16th century. Darkly patinated bronze that incorporates numerous animals throughout its design, reminiscent of other lamps produced in Padua Italy. When viewed from above, we see the gaping mouth of a howling ape and from below the face of a lion. A side view reveals the face of an elephant, while details in the elephant’s tail become the bowed neck of an egret or heron like bird.
